Jack Spot, the “notorious” London gangster, was famous mainly for his defence of the Jewish community against Fascism. Dubbed the “Champion of the Jews,” his heroic tale of battling Sir Oswald Mosleys’ British Union of Fascists at The Battle of Cable Street, was Jewish Folk legend, but later found out to be complete fiction.
Not only was his story of fighting, and flooring, BUF members not true, but the ‘battle’ itself, said to be between Mosleys’ Fascists and the Jewish community, never took place.”

Oswald Mosley’s BUF regularly faced violence, including famously at Cable street, where thugs prevented them from marching through the area and exercising their democratic right to free speech.
The violence led to the formation of the Blackshirts security detail, who were then banned under a new law proscribing the wearing of political uniforms.
Once war broke out, Mosley and the BUF membership were locked up with no Habeus Corpus, as Churchill viewed them as traitors, for not wanting war with Germany.
