My name is not my own,
It is borrowed from my ancestors,
I must return it unstained.
My honor is not my own,
It is on loan from my descendants,
I must give it to them unbroken.
Our blood is not our own,
it is a gift to generations yet unborn,
We should carry it with responsibility.
“My Name Is Not My Own…” is a poem by Vincent Enlund whom penned it originally back in 2006 after he heard a story. However, it wasn’t until 2007 when he first published it as part of an Asatru/Odinist (Germanic Native Faith) poster. Later in 2010, Viking Vinyl made a wall art piece of it (2012, 2013, 2014) and the poem, unaccredited, went viral.
